Capitol Hill Rally Comes Ahead of NYC March to End Fossil Fuels on Sept. 17


WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Members of Congress, youth and climate justice advocates will rally on Capitol Hill Thursday morning to urge President Biden to use his executive powers to stop approving fossil fuel projects, phase out fossil fuels on federal lands and waters, and declare a climate emergency. The rally comes ahead of the March to End Fossil Fuels, Sept. 17 in New York City and the United Nations’ Climate Ambition Summit Sept. 20. It will include colorful banners and signs. What: Rally on Capitol Hill urging Pres. Biden to use his executive authority to end fossil fuel expansion ahead of the U.N. Climate Ambition Summit

When: 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. EST, Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.

Where: Area 11 of U.S. Capitol Grounds, just southwest of the House Triangle, alongside Independence Ave. S.E., Washington, D.C. Who: Congressmembers expected to attend include U.S. Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) along with youth climate advocates and frontline environmental justice leaders.
